How Much Watching Time Do You Have This Weekend?

‘The Resort’
When to watch: Now, on Peacock.

Cristin Milioti and William Jackson Harper star in this swirling dramedy as an unhappy couple who stumble into solving a long-dormant missing persons case while on vacation in Mexico. “The Resort” is more an evocative collage than a tightly plotted mystery; while the story mechanics sometimes feel thin, there’s a robust sense of mood and energy, of the electricity of romance, the panic of loneliness, the paralysis of grief. But funny! The first three episodes are available now, and the following five arrive weekly on Thursdays. If you miss “Search Party” and are also down with mysticism, try this.

‘Amber Brown’
When to watch: Arrives Friday, on Apple TV+.

Amber Brown (Carsyn Rose) is about to start sixth grade, which would be tough enough on its own, but also her best friend just moved away, her parents are newly divorced, and she’s not even allowed to get her ears pierced. She expresses some of her frustrations in a video diary, often with real profundity, and some through drawings that become sweet daydream segments. The show is gentle but powerful, thanks in large part to Rose’s fantastic and natural performance, and Amber’s episodic musings — How many people am I supposed to love? Whose happiness is prioritized in a family? — capture both kid-brain literalism and the bigger, harder questions of growing up.

‘Paper Girls’
When to watch: Arrives Friday, on Amazon.

“Paper Girls” embodies many of the TV crazes of the moment: It’s adapted from a comic book (by Brian K. Vaughan, who also wrote “Y: The Last Man”); it’s set partly in the 1980s; it includes child and adult versions of its characters; it pairs intense violence with youthful mischief; it stars a comedian (Ali Wong) in a dramatic role; it has strong spooky vibes; and there is some kind of time-bending afoot. If you wish “Stranger Things” and “Yellowjackets” could combine forces, or at least combine ominous sound effects, or if you just love stories where suburban bike riding turns into a battle for the world as we know it, watch this.
